The match was followed by the Men’s Qualification Final where Simon Roberts overcame crowd favourite Seb Jackson 6-1 7-5 in a gripping encounter.

The afternoon finished with the Women’s Qualification Final where Natalie Wall defeated Lauren Dowling 6-3 6-1 Merseyside born tennis champ Barry Cowan joined local primary schools from across Liverpool today, to take part in the tournament’s annual Schools Day.

Anders Borg, Tournament Director said “As a tournament, we have a strong commitment to improving lives through the sport. One of my main aims is to encourage as many kids as possible to start playing tennis and to prove to them that tennis is a game for life”

“Since then we have worked with more than 60,000 youngsters in schools and youth clubs across the region to help introduce them to the game, and I am incredibly proud of that fact.”
