25 Years of World-Class Tennis in Liverpool
The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament started in 2002 with a simple idea: to bring professional tennis to Liverpool.
Twenty-five years later, the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is now Europe’s longest-running tennis exhibition.
Along the way, some of the sports biggest names have taken to our courts.
Novak Djokovic. Caroline Wozniacki. Marat Safin. Martina Hingis. Bjorn Borg. John McEnroe. And more.
But Liverpool International has always been about more than star names.
We’ve introduced thousands of local children to tennis, created opportunities for emerging players and brought businesses and communities together through the sport.
In June 2027, we celebrate 25 years of history – right here in Liverpool.
Bringing the Best to The City
For more than two decades, Liverpool International has given tennis fans the chance to watch established professionals, Grand Slam champions and rising stars up close.
The tournament provides players with valuable grass-court competition ahead of Wimbledon and gives emerging talent the chance to test themselves on an international stage.
Some players arrive as household names. Others are destined to be future champions.

Giving Young Players Their Chance
Developing the next generation is an important part of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament.
Since 2013, we’ve organised international junior tennis in the city, bringing young players from around the world to compete in ITF and Tennis Europe events.
Emma Raducanu competed with us in 2015, six years before winning the US Open.
Wirral’s Abi Redman went on to secure a full tennis scholarship in the USA after winning our ITF tournament.
In 2027, five international junior tournaments will bring more than 1,200 players aged 12–18 from nearly 50 countries to Liverpool.
Who’ll hit the big time next?
Tennis In the Community
Tennis should be accessible to everyone.
That’s why our annual Kids Only Day gives hundreds of primary school children the chance to pick up a racket, meet professional players and coaches, and experience tennis in a professional environment.
Our Festival of Tennis takes free coaching into public spaces across Liverpool, while other community programmes give people of all ages the opportunity to try the sport.
Over the years, our community activity has introduced more than 60,000 local children to tennis.
And we’re not finished yet.
Proud to Call Liverpool Home
The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament takes place at the historic Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth, where the intimate grass-court setting puts spectators just metres from the action.
Every June, players, spectators, businesses, schools and communities come together for three days of professional tennis in the heart of South Liverpool.
In 2027, we’ll do it for the 25th time.
