World famous Nick Bollettieri to attend Liverpool 2012

Tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, who has trained many of the world’s top players, will be coming to the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament for the first time this year, it has been revealed.

Bollettieri has worked with 20 former world number one champions, including Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Jim Courier, Monic Seles, Boris Becker, and the Williams sisters.

Now aged 80, he still coaches at his own academies and runs his expert tennis clinics around the world. Known for his charisma and enthusiasm, he is also in demand as a motivational speaker.

Bollettieri will attend the opening day of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament on June 21. As well as appearing at the event, he will be giving tennis clinics and attending a special school day (June 20) to help introduce Merseyside children to the game.

Nick Bolletieri said: “I am excited about coming to Liverpool for the first time and am looking forward to the tournament. I know there is a lot of raw talent in the region, and who knows if we might even find a future champion?”

Anders Borg, director of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, said: “This is an amazing coup for the tournament and we are thrilled Nick will be joining us on our opening day. Not only that, but he will be offering his expertise to our aspiring young tennis players too. Nick is simply a legend of modern tennis and we cannot wait to welcome him to Liverpool.”

This year, the tournament will be spread over six days, comprising two days for youngsters on June 19-20, followed by the four day main tournament event, which organisers hope will generate 25,000 spectators.

A full list of player line ups for this year’s tournament is to be announced at a press conference in Liverpool on 18 April, and there is a 10 percent discount available on all ticket sales available from Ticket Master and Liverpool Echo Arena websites until that date.
