Liverpool is famous for many things. But sport, socialising, and an atmosphere are right near the top of the list.
That’s exactly what the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament offers each June, as we bring top professional athletes, a lively crowd, and a summery atmosphere to the historic grounds of Liverpool Cricket Club.
Running for more than two decades, the event is now Europe’s largest and longest-running tennis exhibition. Yes, we attract some of the sport’s biggest names. But we also offer something quite different from the grand arenas of the professional tour.
For three action-packed days, tennis fans, families and businesses gather in Aigburth to enjoy top-level sport, outstanding hospitality, and the chance to mingle courtside in the early summer sun.
Plus, with tickets starting from just £22, it’s one of the most accessible ways to experience professional tennis up close.
Here’s why the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is a must-see event in the city’s sporting calendar.
World-Class Grass Court Tennis

Let’s start with the on-court action.
At its heart, Liverpool Tennis is about watching outstanding players compete on grass.
Because our tournament offers top ATP and WTA players the chance to fine-tune their grass-court game ahead of Wimbledon, we’ve welcomed some of the game’s biggest names.
Novak Djokovic played his first-ever grass-court match at the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament in 2005. Caroline Wozniacki, Marat Safin, Martina Hingis, and many other tennis icons have also appeared on Liverpool’s centre court.
As well as welcoming many of the sport’s most famous figures, we also provide a competitive environment for rising stars and established professionals to build their confidence before heading to SW1.
While our tournament is an exhibition event, the tennis is of the highest standard. Just ask Neil Skupsi. The ATP doubles world number one is a tournament regular and long-time advocate Liverpool Tennis advocate.
Of course, being an exhibition event means the atmosphere is more relaxed than at tour tournaments. We take our sport seriously. But there’s also room for personality, crowd interaction and memorable moments.
An Intimate Venue That Brings You Close To The Action

One of the things that sets Liverpool Tennis apart is our stunning venue.
Founded in 1807, Liverpool Cricket Club is one of the oldest sporting grounds in the United Kingdom. While the club is steeped in history, the grass court used for the tournament is prepared to the highest modern standards. Exactly what you’d expect from a professional event.
Better yet, Liverpool Cricket Club’s intimate setting means you’re close enough to the court to hear every grunt, groan, and thwack of the ball as the players give their all.
The closeness of our seating areas creates a viewing experience many venues simply can’t match. Whether it’s a booming serve, a perfect drop shot or a tense match point rally, every moment feels more thrilling when you’re metres from the action.
For tennis fans used to watching the sport on television, it’s a rare opportunity to experience the pace, power and skill of elite players up close.

A Liverpool Crowd and an Amazing Atmosphere

Like any sport in our city, Liverpool Tennis spectators are as important as the players.
Over the years, our tournament has become a popular fixture in the city’s sporting calendar, attracting both dedicated tennis followers and people looking for a good day out.
Families settle into the stands with picnics. Friends gather for an afternoon of tennis and chat. Schoolchildren experience the thrill of live sport. Businesses from across the region bring clients or colleagues to enjoy the hospitality.
The result is one of the liveliest, friendliest atmospheres around. There’s plenty of appreciation for the quality of tennis on display, but there’s also the spontaneous spirit you’d expect from a summer event in Liverpool.
Fantastic Food, Drinks and Hospitality

The off-court experience is another reason our event has remained so popular.
Hospitality has long been part of the tournament’s appeal, particularly for businesses looking to entertain clients or colleagues. Guests can enjoy welcome drinks, a three-course lunch, and premium seating offering a superb view of the matches.
The hospitality areas – including the well-known Legends marquee – provide a relaxed setting where conversations flow between matches. From catching up with colleagues to making new business connections, socialising and networking at Liverpool Tennis are all part of the day.
Treat your team, thank a client, and escape the office for the afternoon with good food, drinks in the sunshine and high-quality sport just a few steps away.
