The tournament which set US Open Champion on her winning path will take place in Liverpool once again this weekend

The ITF Under-18 event is taking place at Liverpool Tennis Centre this weekend and is the same competition that saw Emma Radacanu become the youngest-ever winner of back in 2015 – aged just 13.

Hundreds of players from across the UK have applied to be part of the popular junior event which sees competitors battle it out to get their first official International Tennis Federation points – potentially the first step towards a successful tennis career.

And the event kicks off two weeks of solid competition as the venue in Wavertree also hosts Tennis Europe which will see under-14s from across Europe gather to compete.

Both events have been organised by Northern Vision who has delivered International Tennis to Liverpool for nearly 20 years. Tournament Director Anders Borg says « Its great to have the International Junior event back in Liverpool, Councils around the UK are begging for these kind of events to stage in their cities and we will work closely with David Hardman and his team at the centre to give local players a chance to participate in the tournament and develop tennis participation in general in Liverpool.

Liverpool City Council’s Tennis Co-Ordinator, David Hardman said “It feels great to have the centre back open once again and to be staging events of this calibre.

“No other city in the UK has staged both Tennis Europe and ITF under-18 tournament at the same time and it’s a huge coup.

“It’s a great showcase for the city and for the sport and I hope it inspires youngsters across Liverpool to pick up a racket and get involved and we are so pleased to work with Anders and his team who has done an amazing job for tennis in Liverpool.
