THREE former Wimbledon ladies champions came together at the Liverpool International Tennis tournament.
Martina Hingis, Martina Navratilova and Silver Jubilee year winner Virginia Wade posed together in Calderstones Park after the two MArtina’s finished their last exhibition match on centre court.
The Calderstones event is in its 10th year and features a men’s and women’s main event, as well as one for veterans and some exhibitions.
Sunday was the turn of the legends to light up the courts with a series of sparkling exhibitions
The two Martinas played a singles match, followed by a doubles exhibition featuring Mikael Pernfors, former British number one Greg Rusedski, Ormskirk’s Barry Cowan and Mansour Bahrami, whose comic court routines have become the stuff of legend.
Later in the day following the doubles exhibition match, former CEO of Tradition, David Pinchin took to centre court to congratulate Anders Borg on his achievement reaching 10 years with the Liverpool event, which has grown from an in-door event with 500 spectators to a large outdoor event with over 15,000 visitors.
