Coming up to under two weeks until the launch of the 14th edition of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament, we are looking forward to welcoming some of the greatest tennis players in the world, such as ATP number 75, Damir Dzumhur from Sarajevo.
Fresh from making it to the third round of Roland Garros when not only going up against former world number 1 Roger Federer for the first time, but also playing against his own idol, Damir will be making his way to the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
Damir was born in Sarajevo, as first child to father Nerfid and mother Žaneta. His birth came shortly after outbreak of Bosnian War, in a maternity hospital located near the Zetra Olympic Hall. The arena was destroyed at the time, but it was the same place where Damir would start practicing tennis. He was coached by his father Nerfid, who has been running a tennis school since 1994.
As a kid Damir practiced skiing and played soccer, in addition to tennis. Growing up, he admired Patrick Rafter and Roger Federer. He is also a keen fan and supporter of Bosnian soccer team FK Željezničar.
In his childhood, Damir acted in two movies – Grbavica (2006), as background actor, and Mörderischer Frieden (2007), where he played major role as Durcan. In addition to his native Bosnian, he speaks English. He has studied political science at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo, at University of Sarajevo.
