The number one ranked Russian junior Andrey Roublev – tipped to be the next sensation – is set to try out Liverpool turf at next week’s tennis tournament.
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has ranked the 17-year-old number one since last June.
The 6ft 2 inch right handed player from Moscow turned professional in 2013 and has been tipped for stardom by Anders Borg, the Tournament Director for Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
Borg said: “I believe Andrey is, at least, as good as Novak Djokovic – who played in the Liverpool International as a junior – was at his age. In fact, I think he is even better! He has a great of becoming one of the best players in the world. The crowd will have something to saviour here in Liverpool and in the future they will be able to say they saw him here first.”
Former international tennis superstar Bjørn Borg went even further by quoting this week on Facebook that Rublev will be the future number 1.
