First win on grass ever
Coming to Wimbledon fresh from Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament, Pablo Andujar won on Tuesday his first victory on grass ever! Remembering the 3 hours in scorching sun and five sets against Garcia-Lopez, Pablo said the following exclusively to Liverpool International:
What did you think going into the match?
I always try not to think a lot. Just to concentrate and play my game. Observe the player I’m playing against and try to focus on every point.
Have you ever played Garcia-Lopez before?
Yes, I think I’ve played 5 times, and yesterday was my first victory against him.
What did you think of him as an opponent?
He’s brave and he has good serve which is important on grass. He is a complete tennis player.
The match went on for over three hours and five sets. What did you feel when you won, and this being your first win on grass?
It’s a very good feeling, you feel satisfied. Finally you get the reward of all the work you’ve been doing. And being my first victory it’s important to believe in myself and keep trusting in myself. I helps to be more confident .
How do you enjoy playing at Wimbledon?
Wimbledon I could say is one of the most beautiful tournaments, if it’s sunny is wonderful, the colours , everything so settled , green white and purple.. Very, very nice! And if I win, it gets even more nicer !!!
First time to second round
After winning Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament, and thusly his first tennis title as a British citizen, Aljaz Bedene is also through to the second round of Wimbledon for the first time ever – and at any Grand Slam for that matter – with a hard-fought victory against Czech Radek Stepanek in five sets lasting 3 hours and 11 minutes.
Today, Aljaz will face 29-year old Viktor Troicki from Serbia in the second round of Wimbledon. At the same time, Pablo Andujar will play against Lukas Rosol from Czech Republic.
Good luck in the 2nd round from everyone associated with Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament!
