Back to News
The fifth and final singles match of the day saw Norwegian tennis starlet, 19-year old Melanie Stokke against British qualifier, 16-year old Ellie Tsimbilakis.
Both girls looked calm, focused and fit for fight going into the match. In contrast to today´s first women´s match, where points were short, Stokke and Tsimbilakis´ went for generally longer rallies.
Melanie played the more aggressive game, a strategy which quickly paid off, as she won the first set comfortably 6-2, and the second 6-3.
It was important for me to stay awake, be focused, and play my game, said Stokke after the match.
Melanie will go on to face world number 73, Wang Qiang, in the women´s final tomorrow at Liverpool Cricket Club.
I won´t let myself be intimidated by the fact that she is high ranked. I will focus on myself and concentrate on developing my game. If I do what I´m supposed to, I know I have a good chance to win, as long as I tell myself to do my best on every point, expressed Melanie to us ahead of tomorrow´s final.
Due to adverse weather forecast for Sunday 19th of June, play will be brought forward to an 11.00 start.
Ticket box office will be open from 10.00. Gates will open at 10.15.
Welcome to the fourth and final day of the 15th edition of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament at Liverpool Cricket Club!
