Tournament organiser Anders Borg was inspired by the races to launch a fashion showcase.

This year’s Liverpool International Tennis Tournament will have its first ever Ladies Day style contest, with players mingling with crowds to pick out the best dressed women and men.

Tournament organiser Anders Borg says he was inspired by the fashion at the Aintree Grand National Festival and decided tennis fans could go one better.

“I went to Ladies Day at the races and saw all the effort which had gone into the outfits and I thought, why couldn’t we do this at the tennis?” he says. “Our ladies and gentlemen could be even more stylish, if possible.

“Our best dressed competition will be for men and women on the second day of the tournament, Friday June 17, and the judges will be our tennis players, which we thought was an interesting twist,” Anders adds. “Anyone will be able to enter, in the corporate hospitality area which is already sold out or in the general admission area, and there’s no need for spectators to register to take part.”

Prizes awarded at the end of play will include jewellery from Cadenzza and a stay at the Hilton Hotel.

“We have some of the legends, like Mansour Bahrami and Peter McNamara, judging along with last year’s former Junior Wimbledon winner Sofya Zhuk,” says Anders. “They’ll be walking around, looking out for their most stylish, during the day and then at around 4pm we will announce the winner and present the prizes.”

The 2016 Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament returns to Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth, from Thursday June 16 to Sunday June 20. As well as the tennis matches, there will be a fashion show on the Thursday and Friday with Stephanie Rooney at The Dressing Room in Liverpool.
