The third day of Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament marks this year´s semifinals for the tournament´s players.
First match of the day featured world number 84 Wang Qiang vs. Anastasia Detiuc from Moldova, number 24 on ITF-junior ranking.
Going into the match, both girls were facing very little previous experience on grass. This was Anastasia’s only second match ever on grass, first one being yesterday, against Norwegian starlet Melanie Stokke.
First set could have gone either way, both girls hitting smart, hard and going for quick wins, before Wang took charge and dominated the long rallies that describe the tiebreak in the first set.
In the second set Wang was overall more confident and took an early lead. Anastasia made a great comeback playing more strong, and confident, reaching 5-3 in the second set, but having started to play on grass last year, Qiang made the most of this upper hand, not to mention the experience that comes with being ranked amongst WTA-topp 100 in the world.
Wang secured her second big win in the tournament scoring 7-6, 6-3 and is through to tomorrow´s final here at Liverpool Cricket Club.
