Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli took the opportunity to tour Anfield while competing at the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament.
The 29-year-old Frenchwoman is a keen football fan and knows a number of French national team players as well as a few Liverpool stars and visited the ground with Southport’s own Wimbledon legend Barry Cowan and Reds icon Phil Neal.
During her visit she took pictures with the famous This Is Anfield sign, Liverpool Liver Bird mascot Mighty Red and even tweeted a picture to good friend Mamadou Sakho in front of his shirt in the dressing room saying:
“Watch out @mamadousakho3 I might take your shirt”.
A Marseille fan, Bartoli has indicated she would like to return to Anfield to see Liverpool in action.
“I know about the special atmosphere on matchdays and I would love to come back and experience that first-hand.”
